The Building Component Award honours individuals and small groups who – through innovation, precision and persistence – have created or refined building components that contribute significantly to quality and value creation in the built environment.
Building components often go unnoticed in the finished building – but play a key role in providing responsible and long-term solutions.
Through the award, Villum Foundation and VELUX FOUNDATION seek to raise awareness of the vital role building components play in amplifying the contribution made to environmental, social and economic sustainability by construction.
The focus is on components that contribute to lower resource consumption and longer lifetime, to healthier and more inclusive living environments – and to financially responsible solutions during development and operation.
What is a building component?
Building components are defined as sub-components, prefabricated in an industrial process, which subsequently become part of a building. This can include both recycled and new products. Building components that may be considered must have a significant Danish connection – rooted in Denmark through origin, history, production or in some other way.
The story behind the Building Component Award
The Building Component Award carries on the legacy of the founder of VELUX FOUNDATION and Villum Foundation, Villum Kann Rasmussen – the inventor and entrepreneur whose work demonstrated how technical insight and curiosity in combination with industrial solutions can create real value in the built environment.
